Bernie asked me for help?

With the recent failure of the Republican Senate to repeal the ACA, I hope Obama’s legacy will remain intact until a newer better plan comes along.  Specifically, I think our current healthcare woes won’t go away until a government sponsored healthcare is enacted.  What would it look like?  I have no idea.

Even Bernie has no idea…. but he sent a message via the PAC asking about healthcare.

And one of the questions, I gave my idea of what I think might work.

Grand Tour on Amazon Video

Anyone recall BBC’s Top Gear?  The original hosts appear to run into some issues that ended up with the show being cancelled. So what do you do with a show that’s been going on for seasons? You find a new sponsor and distributor for the show.  So now, Amazon distributes Grand Tour on Amazon Video which generally mirrors the format.

As someone who doesn’t really know much about cars, I find their “analysis” of the cars to be interesting.  Although I can gather greater horsepower is good, what I find most enjoyable is each host’s will demonstrate their utter enthusiasm for a particular car’s power, speed, and handling while simultaneously trying to minimize the other cars being showcased.  It inevitably ends up being such a crazy dialog that sometimes I want to drive all the cars just to see how it feels.

They also have these “crazy” challenges which are hilarious too.  The “eco-friendly” Land Rover conversion is definitely my favorite followed by the dune buggy.  I think it’s worth watching if anything for the comedy.

Healthcare Bill Comparison

With the Senate’s healthcare bill’s demise these past few days, I got wondering about the differences between the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and the “Republicare.”  I found this nice comparison from the BBC.

The one thing that struck me is the tax breaks on the wealthy the “Republicare” is going to implement in the first version got taken out from the second version.  More importantly, do people really believe that cutting the revenue gained from taxing the wealthy is *REALLY* going to allow a maintenance of healthcare support?  And more broadly, is taxing the rich really going to be a viable model for years to come?

I think ultimately, both Democrats and Republicans have to get behind a single universal government healthcare provider.  The government will also need to establish what they consider as “mandatory” healthcare services and benefits, and determine a reasonable cost of service price point(s) for the mandatory services and benefits.  These services and benefits need to be adjusted as the citizen grows old as well.  For all other non-mandatory items, the healthcare market can take up the slack and charge premiums to cover those types of services.  I think this is great win for both private and public sectors.

Brandywine Coffee Roasters

July’s Angel Cup coffee beans come from Brandywine Coffee Roasters.  These beans specifically come from Columbia’s Santa Barbara Estate located in Fredonia, Antioquia according to the website.

The aroma from the bag is all about nuts.  This is probably the nuttiest aroma so far. Surprisingly, a quick grind and brew of the latte maintains that strong nutty aroma.  When I sip the latte, I’m find myself surprised by the strong earth tones with each sip.  The hint of nuts even overpowers the normal “milk” taste making this a super smooth latte.

Madcap Coffee Company

Last month’s Angel’s Cup beans comes from Madcap Coffee Company.  The fruity/nutty aroma greets me when I open the bag.  On a second deep sniff, the earthy aromas start to percolate the senses at the expense of the fruits.

The grinding accentuated the nutty aroma even more!  What does it taste like?  The nutty flavor is pretty dominant though which is surprising since there was no lingering aftertaste that many of the roasters seem to have.

Ticket Scalping…

Scalping Tickets is pretty big business.  Even Ticketmaster has decided to “allow” scalping of tickets by providing a secondary market for “verified” sales…  This is a screenshot of anyone looking to buy Hamilton Tickets.  Note the Orchestra prices.

Ticketmaster So Fucked Up 1

And do you know how much Orchestra tickets generally go for?  Less than 200 dollars without the added fees tacked.  Resale goes for double the initial purchasing price.  As much as I understand the whole arbitrage of tickets, I find it a bit absurd that Ticketmaster allows the resale of their own tickets.

Ticketmaster So Fucked Up 2

If you look carefully, some of the premium $650 seats are going for double as well.  Why would anyone want to pay double the price for premium seats when there are still seats left?  egads…
