Obama’s Final Year

This documentary about Obama’s final year is pretty awesome.  The behind the scenes commentary about Syria, Paris Climate Accord, Iranian Nuclear Deal and even Trump’s campaign and messaging is fascinating to hear.  I think what’s also amazing are Obama’s final thoughts interspersed throughout the documentary on his thoughts about the various topics.  It’s sad to think how the following presidency has dismantled the legacy.

The Money Way of KonMari…

Japanese exports not just anime…. but mindfulness techniques.  First there was the KonMari method which is a mindfulness exercise on how to manage clutter.  Today, I readabout the Kakeibo method which is also a mindfulness exercise on how to manage finances.

One of the KonMari tenets is to decide whether or not an item “sparks joy.”  Reading about Kakeibo, there are 4 questions to answer…

  1. How much money do you have available?
  2. How much do you want to save?
  3. How much money are you spending?
  4. How can you improve?

This kind of makes me wonder… can the mindfulness to eating also be connected like with the KonMari and Kakeibo methods?  Maybe these 4 questions?

  • Am I hungry?
  • Am I eating because food is in front of me?
  • Am I eating because it’s the “appropriate time” to eat aka breakfast/lunch/dinner?
  • Is what I am eating going to make me happy?

Or maybe simplified to just the first, third and last question?

Wildgoose Coffee Roasters

Not part of Angels Cup, I stumbled across an independent coffee shop.  After buying their latte, I found the coffee to be delicious and ended up buying a bag of beans that they used.  Although the coffee shop doesn’t actively roast their own beans, they source the beans from few local/SoCal roasters.  Wildgoose Coffee Roasters comes from Redlands.  Reading the website, these roasters set aside part of the money from selling beans to donate to food banks.

These beans comes from Honduras.  I’ve had very few beans roasted from Central American so these should be a nice treat from the usual Ethiopian beans that I’ve been getting.  Opening the bag, a fruity yet not too nutty aroma greets me.

While making my latte, I noticed that crema foam on top is pretty thick and decided to skim a bit into my mug.  After making the latte, the first sip was pretty amazing.  Berry and floral flavors danced on my tongue.  The after taste after each sip was so delicious that I savored every drop.  Knowing about the roaster’s donating to the food bank, makes this coffee worth getting when I stop by the coffee shop.

2019 In Review

I failed to do hit all but one of my intended goals for 2019.  That’s pretty depressing.  Ultimately, I lacked the discipline.

2020 goals to come.

Vashon Coffee Company

December’s Angels Cup comes from Vashon Coffee Company.  The beans are from Ethiopia from a Benti Nenqa.  I am not familiar with the name of this region but I know that I’ve had beans from Sidamo, Yirgachefe and Guji regions.  Researching where this Hambela Estate on Google shows that it’s seems to be in the southern regions of Guji.

Floral and berry aromas greet me as I open the bag.  Making my latte, I taste berries and nuts.  There’s a sweet chocolate after taste that lingers at the back of my tongue with every sip.  These Ethiopian beans have a pretty distinctive taste.

“Cha” or “Tay”?

This link blows my mind.  It never occurred to me that two different words for “tea” originated based on how it was exported.

Suits

I have to say… Wearing a suit really makes a difference. But only on relatively normal figured guys (aka no belly, no fat butt).
