Cafe Kreyol Coffee Hunter Project

September’s Angels Cup comes from Cafe Kreyol. The beans come from the Ramirez Estate Microlot in Dominican Republic. I haven’t had too many beans from the Dominican Republic. I’m not sure what it means to be “Red Honey Processed.”

Opening the bag, I am initially greeted with a wonderful sweet and fruity aromas. As I prepare to grind, the aroma morphs into a pleasant chocolate, earthy, nutty aroma. This mix of sweet, fruity, chocolate and nutty aroma is such a great aroma every time I go make my latte. After grinding and making my latte, the first sip has a very subtle sweet and fruity flavor. There is a pleasant chocolate after taste that lingers at the back of the tongue after every sip. The smoothness of the latte is pretty amazing.

Challenger: The Final Flight

Netflix recently released a 4 episode documentary called Challenger: The Final Flight about the Challenger disaster and the stories around the seven astronauts, the decision makers behind Launch/No Launch decision, a brief history into the infamous O-ring and then a very brief intro on the role of the Rogers Commission.

Overall, I think the video editing is fantastic and very slick. The producers leave you at “cliff hangers” between episodes. I say “cliff hangers” because everyone knows what happened to the shuttle. The way the first episode ended was amazing. It leaves you momentarily silenced with the shuttle exploding mentally but I’m seeing the credits roll. I literally went “whoa, what just happened there” because I didn’t expect the sudden fade to black and fade to credits as someone was talking about the Challenger launch and seeing it go up into the clouds. The other fascinating part of this show were about the stories behind the decision makers to continue with the launch as well as the emotions of the family members who literally watched their loved ones die in the explosion. Some of the decision makers didn’t seem to show any remorse on the show when talking about the launch. Although I wonder if they kept up the appearance as a matter of principle, I don’t know how one could not show any emotion or remorse after 40 years. I felt a bit of disdain and anger towards the two NASA engineers Mulloy and Lucas with their actions around the decision to launch and their subsequent attempt to justify the launch.

If there’s a lesson to be learned… the value of human lives is more important hitting some artificial timeline and budgets

Ruth Bader Ginsberg has died

Oh man…. many media outlets are reporting the death of Ruth Bader Ginsberg (RBG). This is an election year. The last time something similar happened, the Republicans considered the election as a “referendum” for the voters to decide on who to be president and thus the power to nominate the replacement. Remember Merrick Garland? Ya… he was nominated by Obama but the McConnell’s Senate cock block rule all but eliminated any chance of confirming a new judge. To say this tactic it’s not political is a total farce since McConnell has admitted the rule was for political expediency.

With RBG’s death, the Dems HAVE TO take the same stance as the Reps did. The Dems need to remind the American public of the past and the political expediency the Reps did. And depending on the response, tie it to the fact that the Reps don’t care about the people or principles… just political expediency. I don’t think McConnell’s Senate will sit aside though. If anything, McConnell will try to force the issue to nominate and confirm a judge. The American people need to start holding these Senators responsible for their (lack of) convictions. “If you stand for nothing, what’ll you fall for

Oh… apparently the political wheels are moving already according to this article. How will this play out…

Broadsheet Coffee Roasters

September’s Trade Coffee (referral link) comes from Broadsheet Coffee Roasters. The beans come from El Salvador in Central America. I haven’t had too many beans from this region especially from El Salvador so this will be a nice treat.

Opening the bag, I’m greeted with aromas of honey, sugar, and fruity aromas. A subtle nutty aroma also lingers at the end with each sniff. Making my latte, the initial sip brings an explosion of citrus flavors mixed with a subtle brown sugar taste. A few sips later, a wonderful rich chocolate flavor emerges coating my tongue. The subtlety of the flavors are pretty amazing. Every time I’ve made my latte, I always end up sipping and enjoying the flavors as they dance on my tongue.

Bobcat Fire

The Bobcat Fire started deep within the Angeles National Forest (LA Times) in the San Gabriel Mountains. It has since exploded and have become a major concern to the cities at the foothills (Arcadia, Duarte, Monrovia, Sierra Madre) while also now threatening Mt Wilson Observatory (LAist). What does this immediately mean? Based on the Arcadia news, Chantry Flats and the Big Santa Anita Canyon hike to Sturtevant Falls and Hermit Falls are probably burned. It looks like the Monrovia Falls hike is also burned as well.

The biggest concern will be Mt Wilson Observatory and the residential communities at the base of the mountains. Evacuation orders and warnings have been issued at least in Arcadia. Stay safe
